National Apprenticeships Week 2025

Celebrating Our Apprentices

At Engineering Power Solutions (EPS), apprenticeships are vital to our business growth and development. During this year’s National Apprenticeships Week, we want to spotlight our incredible apprentices and the value they bring to the wider team.

Meet Our Apprentices

We’re proud to be supporting three apprentices across different areas of EPS. Each of them is gaining real-world experience, developing essential skills, and making a tangible impact on our business.

Since joining us, Lauren has been actively involved in key HR functions, helping to improve internal processes and enhance employee support. She has contributed to the implementation of a new HR software system, MoorePay. This entailed taking charge of researching, selecting, and introducing the platform to the company. She played a vital role in training staff, creating training videos, and ensuring a smooth transition.

Lauren has also developed recruitment skills, having assisted in hiring our latest apprentice by managing job advertisements, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews. Her day-to-day tasks include drafting and updating company policies, responding to employee HR queries, maintaining accurate record-keeping, and supporting compliance efforts. Her strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills make her a key part of the HR team.

Alfie joined as an apprentice CAD technician and is developing key technical skills, contributing to complex real-world projects for some of our high-profile clients. Alfie is assisting our engineering team on numerous projects including substation infrastructure upgrade projects across several UK sites.  He is responsible for producing site earthing layouts, switchboard designs, and technical drawings.

Since starting, Alfie has significantly improved his skills in AutoCAD and has built a strong understanding of electrical circuits and terminology, giving him a solid foundation for his future goal of becoming an electrical engineer. In addition to his CAD training, he benefits from our graduate training academy which provides deeper insights into electrical equipment, safety protocols, and risk assessments.

A typical day for Alfie includes working on a range of designs, converting sketches into AutoCAD drawings, and measuring cables to ensure accurate specifications. He is also balancing his apprenticeship with studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering HNC through Teesside University reinforcing his theoretical knowledge alongside practical experience.

Charles joined us in late 2023 as we looked to bring our marketing function in-house. He has been instrumental in levelling up our online and offline communication strategies, managing campaigns, and improving brand visibility.

Throughout his apprenticeship, Charles has worked on key projects such as revamping our website, developing targeted LinkedIn campaigns, and putting his stamp on EPS’s branding. His strong focus on strategic planning, content creation, and search engine optimisation has helped EPS strengthen its market presence. Now in the final stages of his Level 4 Marketing Executive apprenticeship, he is currently preparing for his last assessment while looking ahead to taking on a more strategic marketing role within the company.

The Value Apprenticeships has Brought to EPS

“Investing in apprenticeships isn’t just about training individuals—it’s about filling critical skills gaps, future-proofing our workforce, and fostering long-term growth. By bringing in fresh talent, we are equipping our team with the skills and expertise needed to innovate and thrive.”

Through structured learning, hands-on projects, and dedicated mentorship, our apprentices gain valuable industry insights while contributing to real business success. In return, we benefit from new perspectives, innovative ideas, and highly skilled professionals who help drive our company forward.

To summarise, we encourage more businesses to invest in apprenticeships and help shape the future workforce. If you’re considering an apprenticeship or know someone who is, explore the opportunities we offer at EPS.

Given the tight deadlines and budget restraints, the level of service Engineering Power Solutions provided was outstanding. The offshore UPS consolidation project was engineered and designed to the platform’s requirements and offshore standards minimising platform shutdowns.
